When intuition alone is not enough
- Before publishing content whose origin is uncertain.
- Before a purchase or transaction that relies on images or videos.
- To document a dispute about the origin or transformations of a file.
- To pass on a verifiable opinion to a client, colleague or third party.
The report covers the examined file only. It is neither a certification of authenticity, nor a guarantee, nor judicial expertise. It does not determine the author's identity or intentions, nor the truth of the depicted event.
An automated score is not a conclusion
The origin of a file cannot be determined from a percentage or a single signal.
Bureau Attest cross-examines several families of elements: metadata, provenance data, software traces, searches for earlier sources, results from specialised tools, and visual examination.
An examiner confronts these elements, looks for their contradictions, and retains the most cautious conclusion compatible with the whole.
Each report presents a conclusion with a confidence level. It expresses the strength and convergence of the observed elements; it is not a statistical probability of accuracy.
When the elements are insufficient, contradictory or too degraded, the conclusion is declared inconclusive and no charge is made.
No single signal ever determines the conclusion on its own.
Bureau Attest Method — version 1.0
Our method is versioned and regularly re-evaluated as new tools, formats, provenance standards and generation techniques appear. The version applied is stated on every report.
